Micro SD Card buying guide

So what you should consider when buying a Micro SD Card?

Consider Compatibility: Varying digital devices are designed to accept varying formats of memory cards. Ensure you buy the exact format which is designed for your device otherwise unsurprisingly memory storage will not work.

Consider Capacity: This is an obvious one. What capacity do you think you will need? Will you need over 64GB memory? Are you an avid photographer? As If so, the higher the better for you. Bear in mind, that as electric devices become more and more advanced, with digital camera pixel resolution getting higher and higher, the need for higher levels of data storage will remain.

Consider Speed: Memory card speed performance is one of the most important things for buying a memory card. Card speed means how fast it can exchange data. The speed is measure by an X rating. 1X speed means 150KB data can be transferred in 1 second. The common memory card speed is under 40X-80X. You can get higher performing cards then this, however they are only often needed for specific situations.

Consider Life of memory card: memory card life time is denoted by NOR and NAND. These terms indicate how many times you can write and erase your memory card. NOR flash technique was utilized mostly in early flash memory cards and this technology is good for 100,000 write and erase cycles, this means after 100,000 times of re-writing you have to buy a new card as after 100,000 write and erase cycles your card will become more and more damaged. The NAND flash system however is good for re-writing your card 1 million times.

What protection do you have when buying online

The internet is ripe with scams and fraudulent sites, so if you pay for something what protection do you have from these type of sites and potentially reclaiming money etc? Lets look at the most popular payment methods.

Paypal: You are protected from fraudulent payments, however there are some instances where Paypal are difficult to reclaim payments, in instances where for example a product was not sold as advertised.  The process of reclaiming is also cumbersome

Bank transfer/bank debit: You are protected from fraudulent payments, and most banks are easily contactable, and have bespoke units you can speak to over the telephone in order to resolve matters. The only stressful points to bear in mind, is that it could take a while for monies to be credited back to your account leaving a gap in your balance.

Credit card: Some consider this payment method the best, as like with direct bank payment, the credit card companies have bespoke units to deal with such issue, and even if you are waiting for monies to be re-credited to your account, you wont ‘feel’ this in your account like with a direct bank payment.

Does a company only accept payments through sources such as Western Union? Then it may be time to question the potential merchant.
